All these qualities can make charismatic leaders. They are captivating people who are referred to as doers and achievers. They inspire others to follow them and are always in great demand.
Chapter 9
charisma and performance
Iwant to share with you a bit about how the charisma factor is important in my line of work. Perhaps my thoughts can shed some light, no matter your chosen field or path. I doubt that I would have been chosen for any of the roles Iâve played if I hadnât emphasized developing the presence I hold within. I am a vulnerable and highly sensitive person. I think you have to be in this business.
There are innumerable talented actors out there, but few have that extra-special something. People who donât want to explore their charisma can certainly sit in the audience and applaud for the ones who want to know about it.
Charisma is a magical power that makes an audience hold its breath as it watches a performer. The audience, mesmerized by the performerâs charms, canât look away. Every performer wants to achieve finesse and wants spectators to react this way. It gives them aesthetic satisfaction and allows them even more roles to choose from as the demand for their skills increases.
To make a performance memorable for the audience, a performer needs to practice his or her art regularly, in the same way practicing charisma is necessary. Performers need to be charismatic if they really want to make themselves appealing to spectators. No one likes to buy tickets for a boring show. What do you, as an audience member, hope to achieve by attending a movie in a theater? The answer is obvious: you want to be entertained. But if the movie doesnât have a good cast or an interesting story line, you wonât bother to see it.
A movie featuring Mel Gibson, Kate Winslet, Robin Williams, Cameron Diaz or Dustin Hoffman might titillate your desire sufficiently, perhaps based entirely on the draw of those names alone. And why do these actors interest you? A common response is that they exude charisma, which gets us, the viewers, to stay in our seats. Weâre captivated every time they appear on-screen with their magnetism and talentâthat very magical something that draws us to watch them.
The connection between the performers and audience puts us in a trance-like state that steals us away from reality as we relate to the fictional characters. This relationship amuses us and makes us feel good
